Fr John Sigler, FSP, BCC
Catholic Chaplain
Fr. John Sigler, FSP, BCC serves as a Catholic Chaplain at the Spiritual Care Department at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He credits his family and lifelong friends for modeling care for people in need and credits these values for having shaped him and his chaplaincy. Fr. John is a member of the Friars of the Sick Poor of Los Angeles (FSP), a community of religious brothers who care for the sick and poor in Los Angeles.
Fr. John earned his bachelor’s degree in social science from San Diego State University. He completed post graduate course work in philosophy at the University of San Diego and then earned his master’s in divinity from St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo, California. After ordination, Fr. John completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Education.
Fr. John is a board certified chaplain with the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. He has been a chaplain at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, California. At CHLA, Fr. John worked primarily in intensive care and end-of-life care. At CHLA he saw the increasing demand for spiritual inter-faith support. He rallied a group of friends and founded The Spiritual Care Guild of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. At St. Mary’s, Fr. John was a member of the palliative care team as well as the ethics committee.
Fr. John’s areas of chaplaincy focus have been primarily end-of-life care, intensive care and palliative care.
