Philip K. Frykman, MD is an Associate Director of Pediatric Surgery in Pediatric Surgical Services at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Frykman specializes in minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic and thoracoscopic procedures) for infants and children.
A board-certified surgeon, Dr. Frykman is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, International Pediatric Endosurgery Group, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, Christian Medical and Dental Society and Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons.
Dr. Frykman has written articles for the peer-reviewed publications Biology of the Neonate, Journal of Biological Chemistry and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. He has also authored or co-authored book chapters for Endoscopic Surgery in Infants and Children, Mont Reid Surgical Handbook (5th Edition), Rudolph's Textbook of Pediatrics (21st Edition) and Operative Pediatric Surgery.
Dr. Frykman received his bachelor's degree from Pitzer College with honors and his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He earned a master's degree from Peter F. Drucker Graduate Management Center in Claremont, California, and he earned a doctorate in molecular genetics (working with Nobel laureates Dr. Michael S. Brown and Dr. Joseph L. Goldstein) at the University of Texas Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Frykman completed residencies in general surgery at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and in pediatric surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and The Children's Hospital of Alabama, serving as Chief Resident at both.
