Margie Morgan PhD

Scientific Director, Microbiology

Margie Ann Morgan, PhD is the Scientific Director of Microbiology in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC).  She is a board certified diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology.

Winner of the Golden Apple Award from CSMC for outstanding contributions to medical education, Dr. Morgan is actively involved in pathology residency teaching, infectious disease fellow training, Molecular fellowship training and doctorate student training.  She is on the CSMC Hospital Infection Control Task force for hospital infection prevention. She is a member or several professional societies and the president-elect for Southern California branch of the American Society for Microbiology.  

Dr. Morgan has written over 60 peer reviewed articles and abstracts for and co-authored two book chapters in Infectious Disease Monographs.  Dr. Morgan’s research interests include rapid methods for blood culture pathogen detection and surveillance, detection methods in hospital acquired infections, and herbal medications for bacterial pathogen killing.  

Dr. Morgan earned her master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City in microbiology and immunology followed by a fellowship in clinical microbiology and immunology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
