Monali Misra, MD, FRCSC, FACS



Monali Misra, MD, FRCSC, FACS is a surgeon at the Weight Loss Center at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Prior to joining Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Misra was a surgeon and an assistant professor at Canada’s McMaster University.  Additional duties included Associate Directorship for the Center for Minimal Access Surgery and Co-Directorship of the Bariatric Program at McMaster University and President of the St Joseph’s Hospital Medical Staff.

Dr. Misra’s research interests include the study of endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures vs. traditional surgical treatments. She also has interests in studying the effects of bariatric surgery in the treatment of diabetes. She is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Misra is a member of many medical societies including the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons. Her research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Psychiatry and Neuroscience and The Cancer Journal, a publication of the National Cancer Institute. In addition to being the recipient of many honors and awards, she has lectured and presented at national and international scientific and surgical conferences.

After earning her medical degree from the University of Saskatchewan, Dr. Misra completed a general surgery residency at McMaster University. She was chief resident her final year.  She completed her Fellowship Training in Advanced Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in 2005.
