Norman Lepor, MD
Norman E. Lepor, MD, FACC, FAHA, FSCAI, is a cardiologist at the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute. Dr. Lepor also is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He is triple board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology.
Dr. Lepor earned his medical degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He then completed his medical residency and cardiology fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He was mentored by some the most important figures of the day in cardiology, including the late Drs. Jeremy Swan and William Ganz. He has been in private practice and an attending physician at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center since 1988.
Over the years, Dr. Lepor has been able to pursue his multiple passions as a clinical practitioner, medical educator and clinical researcher. His academically oriented practice has been devoted to the treatment and prevention of coronary artery disease as an expert in percutaneous coronary interventions and the treatment of hypertension, heart failure, lipid disorders and arrhythmias. He has performed thousands of percutaneous interventions at Cedars-Sinai.
Dr. Lepor has participated in the training of over 100 of Cedars-Sinai's clinical cardiology fellows who now play important clinical, research and teaching roles and has been an active member of important hospital committees at Cedars-Sinai. In recognition of Dr. Lepor's contribution to clinical care, teaching and research, he was promoted to the rank of full Clinical Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
More recently, he developed an interest in cardiac imaging as a pioneer in cardiac CT and is heavily involved in developing protocols for the efficient and effective cardiovascular application of nuclear (SPECT and PET), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) technologies.
Dr. Lepor is co-editor of the very widely read medical journal Reviews in Cardiovascular Medicine, and serves as a reviewer for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and the American Journal of Kidney Disease. He has authored and co-authored numerous manuscripts and abstracts in the most prestigious cardiology journals and has had these findings presented at the annual scientific sessions of the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics, Society of Coronary Angiography and Interventions and Society of Cardiovascular CT.
Many of Dr. Lepor's research investigations have been performed with the collaboration of clinical scientists at Cedars-Sinai. He is considered a national authority on issues such as the treatment of cardiovascular disease in diabetics, the role kidney disease and cardiovascular conditions, cardiovascular imaging and coronary interventions.
A much sought after speaker, Dr. Lepor is in demand as a lecturer across the United States and has been featured in both the local and national press. He is a familiar face on Capitol Hill where he has worked with the American College of Cardiology to inform our national representatives on issues of concern to our patients and colleagues.
