Donald A. Wiss, MD
Director, Orthopaedic Trauma
Donald A. Wiss, MD is Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon. His clinical and research focus is on the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of musculo-skeletal injuries and post-traumatic fracture reconstruction.
Dr. Wiss has held academic appointments at the Boston University School of Medicine and the University of Southern California, where he was Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Director of the Orthopaedic Trauma Service at Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center. For the past 17 years, Dr. Wiss was the Head of the Orthopaedic Trauma at the Southern California Orthopaedic Institute.
Dr. Wiss is a member of many professional societies and has been on the editorial board of several major journals. He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles and dozens of abstracts in major journals, including Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma and The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He is the editor of the textbook Master Techniques in Orthopaedics: Fractures, first and second editions. He has given more then 400 presentations worldwide, including many as Visiting Professor at major academic medical centers. Dr. Wiss is also past President of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association.
Dr. Wiss earned his bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and one year of general surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center followed by an orthopedic surgical residency at the University of Pittsburgh. He was awarded the prestigious Girdlestone Scholarship in Orthopaedic Surgery at Oxford University's Nuffield Orthopaedic Center in England, and was a trauma Fellow both at the AO Fracture Clinic in Tubingen, Germany and a senior trauma Fellow at Boston University, City Hospital.
