Didactic Program

We offer a comprehensive educational program that includes the CSMC Core Curriculum Lecture Series, Grand Rounds with experts from across the country, imaging conference, research journal club with Dr. Dan Wallace, research conference, and case presentations by Fellows with didactic discussions.  Every one of these conferences occurs on a monthly basis.  Attendance by the fellows is a required for meetings that occur on the CSMC campus.

A Journal Club is held once monthly for 2 hours in the evening.  Participants include Attending Staff, Key Faculty members, and Grand Rounds’ speakers.  Journal Club is scheduled the night before the Grand Rounds so that invited Grand Rounds speakers (see below) are able to participate.  In addition, Grand Rounds speakers attend the Fellows CSMC clinic immediately following their invited presentation so that they can interact on a personal and one-on-one basis with the Fellows.

UCLA Rheumatology Grand Rounds (Core Conferences for UCLA Fellows) occur weekly and are part of the UCLA Fellowship training program.  CSMC fellows are required to attend all of these meetings, and their attendance is monitored.  This is an excellent collaborative opportunity for our CSMC Fellows to interact with the fellows and faculty of our sister institution.

Orthopedic/Rheumatology Grand Rounds is a multi-disciplinary, systems-based management presentation of complicated musculoskeletal issues that affect patients who see both Rheumatologists and Orthopedic Surgeons.  These conferences currently occur on a quarterly basis.  However, approval has been granted for these conferences to be held more frequently now that a fully credentialed Orthopedic Residency has been approved for CSMC.

Every week Dr. Weisman holds “Chief Rounds” with the fellows and residents on the clinical service.  During these rounds Dr. Weisman is able to regularly provide fellows and other trainees with his unique perspective and experience on the challenges of diagnosing and treating in-patients who are concurrently being followed on the clinical service.
