Quality and Safety
At the Saul and Joyce Brandman Breast Center, a Project of Women's Guild, and the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute, the quality of care provided to patients is measured on the basis of the following factors:
- The volume of procedures done
- The volume of breast-conserving surgical procedures done, and
- The breast cancer quality of care guidelines endorsed by the Commission on Cancer as well as the National Quality Forum (NQF), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN)
Additional measures of the quality of care given to patients at Cedars-Sinai are reported on a hospital-wide basis. These include:
- Nursing excellence
- Prevention of hospital-acquired infections
- Surgical care measures such as prevention of infections or blood clots following surgery, blood sugar management and use of beta blockers when appropriate
- Patient satisfaction
- Consumer perceptions of Cedars-Sinai as measured by the National Research Corporation's annual Healthcare Market Guide survey
