Private Insurance: Most private insurance will reimburse the purchaser for a certain percentage of the purchase cost of breast prosthesis. A prescription from the doctor plus the bill for the prosthesis should be submitted to the insurance company who will then send the purchaser a refund. Some health insurance plans do not reimburse for breast prosthesis. Clarify prior to purchase.
Medicare: Medicare allows 80% of the cost of a prosthesis. A prescription from the doctor and a bill of sale for the prosthesis must be submitted to Medicare and 80% of the cost is reimbursed to the purchaser. Some vendors may help with billing.
