Research Focus

Systemic lupus erythematosus: genetic susceptibility, environmental risk, biomarkers, clinical trials, patient reported outcome measures, cardiac complilcations
Rheumatoid arthritis: environmental risk, clinical trials
Sjogren's syndrome: biomarkers, genetics, clinical trials

Research Contributions

Leader in the discovery of new autoantibodies, clinical trial design for autoimmune diseases, and has published significant insights into the mechanisms of actions of drugs used for these disorders and their environmental and genetic associations.

Current investigations include:

Collaborative efforts with several lupus and Sjogren's consortiums (e.g., SLICC) to evaluate biomarkers, genetic and environmental associations, outcomes and prognostic markers, disease activity indices. Involved in 40 different initiatives including 10 biologic agents in clinical trials. Recent grant to evaluate clinical optimization of autoantibody testing. Collaboration with Continuing Medical Education for quality improvement in lupus education.
