Research Focus
(1) Reproductive endocrinology, focusing on placental hormones, as well as androgens in women. (2). Thyroid cancer, examining redifferentiating therapies for papillary and follicular carcinomas that have lost the ability to concentrate radioactive iodine.
Research Contributions
Co-developed the beta-hCG immunoassay that formed the basis for the modern pregnancy tests; descibed the use of hCG and other placental hormones as tumor markers; demonstrated the efficacy and safety of testosterone therapy for women with low sexual desire; examined the parameters for optimal radioiodine therapy of patients with thyroid cancer
Current investigations include:
Effect of environmental factors on iodine excretion; redifferentiating therapy of thyroid cancer in vitro; transdermal testosterone treatment of women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder
