Research Focus
Research in the Laboratory of Murine Models of Metabolic Disease focuses on the genetics of metabolic diseases including obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and hyperlipidemia. The mouse is used as a model organism to discover and characterize novel genes involved in metabolism.
Research Contributions
Discovered and characterized novel genes involved in insulin resistance, obesity and lipid metabolism.
Current investigations include:
Currently investigating the role of a recently discovered gene, Lmf1, in lipid metabolism. Transgenic and knock-out mouse models are used to explore metabolic consequences of tissue-specific overexpression or deficiency of Lmf1. In vitro studies are directed at understanding the molecular functions of Lmf1. Other work focuses on the genetics of diabetes-susceptibility in an obese mouse model, C57BLKS-db.
