Dr. Cokic earned his medical degree from the University of Novi Sad in Serbia. After completing extensive postdoctoral research training at Northwestern University (Divisions of Nephrology/ Hypertension and Cardiac Electrophysiology) and at the University of Chicago Lung Injury Center, he joined the Biomedical Imaging Research Institute in January 2011 as a Project Scientist. His principle research interests relate to the mechanisms and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.
Avinash earned his bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from Birla Institute of Technology, India and completed a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University. He is currently a doctoral student in Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles. In the Dharmakumar group at BIRI, he studies the pathophysiological consequences of hemorrhagic myocardial infarctions following ischemia-reperfusion injury using MRI.
