Research Areas
Hernia Surgery
We have noted that there are certain symptoms that highly correlate with diagnosis of a hernia, and have developed a hernia evaluation questionnaire that focuses on symptoms and risk factors. We are evaluating the sensitivity of each symptom to determine a formula to help non-specialists determine if a patient has a hidden hernia.
Surgical Infection
Patients are prospectively followed for 30 days. We are analyzing our data to determine the strongest factors correlated with a reduction in surgical site infections.
Surgical Education
We have found that students who enroll in surgery programs at the end of their clerkship year are more likely to receive honors awards. We are evaluating the optimal clerkship pattern in order to guide students in their career planning.
