Melmed Lab

The Melmed Lab focuses on elucidating mechanisms of pituitary tumor development and pathogenesis, translating the study of anterior pituitary function regulation to the clinic and establishing new modalities of diagnosis and treatment for pituitary diseases. Examples of work in the Melmed Lab include growth hormone in epithelial transformation and aging, genetic drivers of pituitary somatotroph adenoma progression and novel therapeutic development for aggressive pituitary adenomas.

Personal Statement

Shlomo Melmed, MB ChB, FRCP, MACP, is co-director of the Pituitary Center, distinguished professor of medicine in the Endocrinology Division and dean of the medical faculty at Cedars-Sinai.

The Melmed Lab focuses on integrating basic science discovery with prospective study of patients with pituitary tumors. The clinical and translational training in the Pituitary Center and Melmed Laboratory provide ideal nurturing scholarly environments in pituitary medicine. Many of the more than 70 pre- and postdoctoral scientists trained in the Pituitary Center now occupy leadership positions in academic endocrinology in the U.S. and worldwide.
