Application Information
We offer approximately 20 positions in a traditional categorical program (Program No. 1030140C0) and seven positions in our primary care track (Program No. 1030140M0). Additionally, we offer one or two positions through our Physician Scientist Training Program (Program No. 1030140C1).
We offer two preliminary internal medicine tracks. The first of our preliminary internal medicine programs (Program No. 1030140P0) offers a single year of training in medicine for those who plan to pursue subsequent training in another medical field. This program has two or three preliminary PGY-1 positions available per year.
In the second preliminary internal medicine track, we offer five positions to interns who will complete their subsequent training in the Cedars-Sinai Neurology Residency Training Program (Program No. 1030140P1). This program is only available to individuals who rank the Cedars-Sinai advanced Neurology Residency Program (Program No. 1030180A0).
Instructions & Information for Applicants
For the postgraduate year one (first-year medical residency) program, Cedars-Sinai only accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Final acceptance into our program is contingent upon graduation from medical school. For more information on ERAS, contact your medical school. Please see our application requirements below.
Categorical (No. 1030140C0) and Primary Care Track (No. 1030140M0) applicants must include the following materials in their ERAS application:
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Transcript of medical school records
- Personal statement
- Medical student performance evaluation from your dean's office
- Internal Medicine departmental letter (this letter may be referred to by various names and any of the following are acceptable: Medicine Chair’s Letter, Internal Medicine Structured Evaluative Letter (IM SEL) or Department of Medicine Summary Letter of Evaluation (DOM SLOE))
- For applicants who are currently in another residency program, we will accept a letter of recommendation from your program director in lieu of a departmental letter
- For international medical graduates or other applicants applying from a non-traditional route, we will accept a clinical letter of recommendation from another faculty member or attending (may be US-based, though this is not required) in lieu of a departmental letter in case you are unable to obtain one
- One clinical letter of recommendation from an internal medicine faculty member or attending physician
- One letter of recommendation from any source
- Up to one other letter of recommendation from any source is optional
- USMLE Step 1 and/or COMLEX-USA Level 1 results
- USMLE Step 2 CK and/or COMLEX-USA Level 2 CE results, if available

Neurology Residency Training Preliminary Program (No. 1030140P1) Applicants
All applications for the integrated preliminary medicine program and the Neurology Training Program are processed by the Residency Training Program in Neurology.
Physician-Scientist Training Program (Program No. 1030140C1) Applicants

Interview & Selection Process
All applications will be screened after October 1. Applicants will be contacted electronically.
The deadline for accepting your application is December 1. We strongly encourage you to apply as early as possible as interview slots fill quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions
We will offer interviews on most weekdays between late October and early January. We will not conduct interviews during the week of Thanksgiving or during the winter holiday period.
All interviews will be conducted via virtual platform this season. For equity reasons, we will not offer any in-person interviews, in-person tours, or in-person "second looks."
No, we do not have minimum USMLE or COMLEX-USA score requirements, but all applicants must pass the USMLE Step 1 and/or COMLEX-USA Level 1 prior to consideration for an interview. We do not require applicants to have USMLE Step 2 CK or COMLEX-USA Level 2 CE scores reported prior to consideration for an interview, though we do encourage it.
Yes, we do consider signaling. Due to a high volume of applications, we are less likely to extend interview offers to applicants who do not signal our program. After the interview process, however, signaling is no longer considered during the ranking process.
Yes. We consider applications from individuals who have attended or graduated from international medical schools. We do not have any specific requirements around US-based clinical experiences, though these are encouraged.
Yes. We sponsor our house staff trainees who are not US citizens or permanent residents on H-1B visas. We also accept trainees on J1 visas.
Yes. Applicants may apply to as many tracks as they would like. However, when inviting for an interview, dual- or multiple-track applicants are scheduled for only a single interview day regardless of the number of tracks to which they have applied. Information regarding each track will be provided.

- Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program (MKSAP) textbooks to all incoming categorical, primary care, and physician-scientist training program interns.
- One-year membership to the American College of Physicians (ACP) to all incoming categorical, primary care, and physician-scientist training program interns.
