Application Information
The Cedars-Sinai Cancer Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program offers an ACGME-accredited three-year program and accepts two fellows per year. The goal of the training program is to develop academic physicians that will become leaders in hematology and/or medical oncology. Physicians completing the program will be board-eligible for both hematology and medical oncology. Candidate selection is based upon both outstanding clinical ability and a strong interest in a research career.
Eligibility
- USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK (must be completed prior to start of internship)
- Graduation from an accredited U.S. or Canadian medical school
- All graduates from foreign medical schools must possess a valid Education Committee for Foreign Medical Graduate (ECFMG) certificate at the time of application for your application to be reviewed
Foreign Medical Graduate Applicant Eligibility
Graduates of medical schools outside of the United States and Canada:
- The program only accepts J-1 visa
- Must have a current, valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)
- Must have taken and passed both USMLE Step 1 and Step 2
Applications
A completed Application requires:
- Completed MyERAS application
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Personal statement
- Three letters of recommendation (one from most recent residency program director and at least two additional letters)
- Dean’s letter/MSPE
- Medical school transcript
- USMLE transcripts
- ECFMG certificate, for foreign medical graduates only
Application Review
Our program leadership and review committee conduct a holistic evaluation of all applicants. Given the high volume of applications received, we strongly recommend ensuring that all required documents are submitted by the time ERAS opens for programs. Incomplete applications (e.g., missing Letters of Recommendation) will not be forwarded to the review committee.
To be considered, a completed application must be received by July 31st.
We assess applicants based on the following key areas:
- Experiences – Life and research experience, professional associations, leadership roles, etc.
- Attributes – Skills, abilities, personal qualities, demographics, language proficiency, cultural humility, etc.
- Competencies – Application of knowledge, skills, and abilities in a professional or academic setting.
- Academic & Scholarly Metrics – Publications, MSPE, USMLE scores, and other academic achievements.
While USMLE scores are considered as part of our holistic review, our program does not have a minimum score requirement or cutoff.
Interview Important Dates
- First day to submit an application is July 1st
- Last day to submit an application is July 31st
- Interview Invitation will be sent out in August
- Interview will take place from change to September – October

Interview Structure
All interviews are conducted virtually to ensure accessibility for all applicants.
Your interview day will begin at 8:00 AM with a 55-minute program overview presented by our Program Directors. This session will give you valuable insight into our program, culture, and what to expect as a fellow.
Starting at 9:00 AM, you will participate in six interview panels, providing an opportunity to connect with faculty and learn more about our training environment.
In addition, you’ll have a chance to meet with our current fellows on the day of your interview. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, hear about their experiences firsthand, and get a sense of our supportive and collaborative community.
