Training & Curriculum
Surgical Critical Care fellows participate in a robust educational program, including participating in a weekly surgical critical care journal club and providing didactic lectures to the residents and students. Faculty members of the departments of surgery, medicine, anesthesia and obstetrics and gynecology give weekly surgical critical care lectures. Fellows also attend the weekly Matrix (morbidity and mortality) conference, basic science conference and chief rounds within the Department of Surgery. They actively participate in quarterly quality improvement committee meetings for the surgical intensive care unit and bioethics conferences.
Clinical research activities form an important component of the fellowship. Previous fellows have presented at national scientific meetings and published original research conducted during their fellowship training in peer-reviewed journals.
Additionally, Cedars-Sinai fosters and trains residents, fellows and junior faculty who wish to conduct clinical and translational research upon graduating from the program. The Clinical Scholars Program provides funding, career guidance, education and skill acquisition for aspiring clinical scientists.
