Abreu Lab
The Abreu Lab team researches inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and colon cancer, focusing on the relationship between the host and the gut microbiota. Dysregulation of the host-microbiota relationship can lead to gut inflammation and tumorigenesis. Her lab is also interested in understanding how environmental and genetic factors interact to explain the rising incidence of IBD in the immigrant Hispanic population.

Personal Statement
I am a world-renowned physician-scientist and gastroenterologist who specializes in IBD, bringing discoveries from the lab bench to the patient bedside. Understanding how diet may shape the gut microbiome and alleviate IBD symptoms can lead to targeted treatment strategies to help our patients live their best lives.
