Personal Statement

Principal Investigator Piotr Slomka, PhD, FACC, FASNC, is the director of Innovation in Imaging and professor of medicine and cardiology, Division of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine at Cedars-Sinai. He received his doctorate in medical biophysics in 1995 from the University of Western Ontario, Canada.

Slomka's research aims to improve the diagnosis and risk assessment of heart disease by developing novel software methods and image-processing algorithms. His research focuses on development of practical clinical innovations and new approaches to quantification of perfusion, ischemia, image registration, multimodality imaging and machine learning, impacting the clinical practice of cardiovascular SPECT and PET. Currently, Slomka is the principal investigator of two National Institutes of Health R01 grants:

• Automated techniques for myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography and computed tomography image analysis
  
• ¹⁸F-fluoride positron emission tomography and computed tomography angiography

As of 2021, Slomka has had more than 350 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He serves as the faculty member for national societies, including the Society of Nuclear Medicine and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and as an associate editor for the Journal of Nuclear Cardiology.
