The pediatric curriculum will be exceptionally diverse, allowing exposure to the entire spectrum of pediatric care while comprehensively covering pediatric topics foundational to the success of our pediatric resident graduates.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Pediatric Residency Training Program at Cedars-Sinai Guerin Children’s is to recruit, train and develop future leaders in pediatrics. We fully support our trainees in the pursuit of excellence in all fields of pediatric healthcare in order to develop outstanding clinicians, innovative researchers, passionate community leaders and advocates. The rich diversity of our trainees and graduates is reflected by the various fields of pursuit in pediatric medicine in the community and the world in which they serve.
Program Aims
- Recruit a diverse and talented group of pediatric trainees who pursue careers spanning the entire spectrum of pediatric medicine.
- Provide an exceptionally well-rounded training environment from primary to quaternary care, through the variety of outpatient and inpatient settings and encompassing the wide diversity of pediatric medicine, while caring for an immensely diverse patient population throughout their entire pediatric lifespan—from prenatal care throughout childhood and into adulthood.
- Train pediatricians who are committed to outstanding patient care through the pursuit of medical knowledge and effective communication and collaboration, with aspirations to deliver preeminent healthcare quality and equity with the highest levels of professionalism.
- Develop future leaders in pediatric healthcare including clinicians, researchers who promote discovery, community health leaders and child advocates who seek to advance the care of children.
Curriculum
The goal of the residency program will be accomplished by the completion of a multiyear curriculum. This three-year curriculum is designed as a continuum of education in pediatrics, fulfilling all criteria to allow our residents to enter the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) examination system. The continuum consists of a clinical base year (12 months=13 blocks) and 36 blocks (one block=four weeks) of ABP-approved training in pediatrics over three years, which includes rotations in the following clinical experiences:

- Pediatric Urgent Care (0.5 block)
- Emergency Medicine (0.5 block)

- Longitudinal outpatient experience at Saban Community Clinic
- Vacation (1 block)

Didactics
The program provides protected time for didactics and educational activities covering a diversity of pediatric topics to ensure that the residents have a strong foundation of pediatric medicine. These include:
- Noon Conference (daily MWF): general pediatric and subspecialty topics covering American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) content specifications
- Evening Report (WF): new patients on the General Pediatric Wards moderated by the pediatric hospitalist faculty
- Pediatric Grand Rounds (biweekly): topical lectures by local, regional and national experts in pediatric medicine
- Pediatric Case Conference (biweekly): case-based learning led by pediatric and pediatric surgical faculty
- Pediatric Simulation (bimonthly): pediatric emergency topics and team-building development in our state-of-the-art simulation center
- Journal Club (semiannual): critical appraisal and clinical application of important pediatric articles
