Bottini Lab
The Bottini Lab studies the pathogenesis of systemic autoimmunity, with a particular focus on scleroderma and rheumatoid arthritis. The key goal is to identify avenues for treatments of systemic autoimmunity that would be more effective and personalized while minimizing or avoiding generalized immunosuppression. Our primary objectives include discovering methods to prevent and reverse scleroderma fibrosis, as well as improving the management of rheumatoid arthritis and its complications without additional immunosuppression. To meet these goals and objectives, the laboratory focuses on two key fields of investigation: protein phosphatases in autoimmunity and cell plasticity in scleroderma and rheumatoid arthritis microenvironments.
Personal Statement
I am a physician-scientist trained in rheumatology, focusing on the translational science of autoimmunity. We partner with other Cedars-Sinai laboratories, clinical experts and our generous patients. Our projects start from an assessment of unmet patient needs and from the study of precious disease specimens. Our ultimate goal is to identify new targets and/or diagnostics for treating autoimmune diseases, making treatments more personalized and effective while minimizing immunosuppression."
