Koronyo-Hamaoui Lab
The Koronyo-Hamaoui lab is studying the role of innate immune cells in CNS repair and regeneration, developing immunomodulation-based treatments for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The team explores the pathological fingerprint of AD in the neuro-retina and develops noninvasive retinal imaging strategies for early detection in these patients, establishing their relationship with disease status in the brain.
Personal Statement
Dr. Maya Koronyo-Hamaoui is a Professor at Neurosurgery department, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, specializing in neurodegenerative diseases, predominantly Alzheimer's disease (AD), neuro-ophthalmology, neuro-inflammatory and retinal vascular pathology research. She obtained her PhD in Psychiatric Genetics from Tel-Aviv University School of Medicine in 2005. After a postdoctoral fellowship in neuroimmunology at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, she was recruited to Cedars-Sinai as a Research Scientist and rapidly advanced to become a faculty assistant professor in 2010.
