Khan Lab
The Khan Laboratory focuses on the discovery and characterization of novel mechanisms that regulate myeloid cell immune response and developing ways that augment and enhance these responses. The lab aims to develop gene- or cell-based therapy to boost the myeloid cell response against a variety of immune challenges. A special interest of the lab is to develop human stem cell-engineered super myeloid cells for immunotherapy to treat aggressive infections and cancer.
The Khan Laboratory is affiliated with the Cedars-Sinai Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine; Department of Biomedical Sciences; and Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute.
Personal Statement
My current research interests involve studying new mechanisms that regulate myeloid cell immunity. A particular focus area is understanding the role of renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in the function of myeloid-derived cells, with emphasis on the role of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE1 and ACE2) in homeostasis and immune responses of macrophages and neutrophils to infections, tumors and chronic illnesses like atherosclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease.
